I’ve learned about the concept called “always be the buyer” from Dan Sullivan and Benjamin Hardy Ph.D. It applies to all aspects of life, and I’ve written a bit about it in a previous entry here.
Now, I’ve co-opted my AI omni to give us a better description and a few examples of how to use this concept to our advantage. And here’s what it came up with.
"Always be the buyer" is a concept that can be applied to all aspects of life.
The buyer is always in a position of power. They have the ability to choose what they want, when they want it, and how much they are willing to pay for it. The seller is always at the mercy of the buyer. They must offer what the buyer wants, at a price that the buyer is willing to pay.
This concept can be applied to any situation where there is an exchange of goods or services. For example, when buying a car, the buyer has all the power. They can choose which car they want, how much they are willing to pay for it, and when they want to purchase it. The seller must offer a car that meets the buyer's needs and preferences, at a price that the buyer is willing to pay.
In a job interview, the employer is the buyer and the job seeker is the seller. The employer has all the power to choose which candidate they want to hire, at what salary, and under what conditions. The job seeker must offer their skills and qualifications at a price that the employer is willing to pay.
In a relationship, each person is both a buyer and a seller. Each person has something that the other wants or needs. Each person must offer something that the other values, at a price that they are willing to pay. For example, one person may offer love and companionship, while another may offer financial stability. You should never settle for less than what you deserve. If someone is not treating you the way you deserve to be treated, then walk away. This will help you to avoid getting hurt emotionally.
The concept of "always be the buyer" can be applied to any situation where there is an exchange of goods or services. By understanding this concept, you can put yourself in a position of power and take control of your life.
That being said by omni, I must add that it’s worth trying to view all situations of your life from the perspective of a buyer, especially when it comes to career and interview, where most people adopt a submissive approach.
Flip the script! Be the buyer!
