I answered a bit in response to mail, Should I copy/paste that here? Better - summary (after skimming - not thoroughly reading - article yet):
- true AI is not built, but evolves
- as between people, empathy and compassion (=shared passion) is needed as one of foundations of ethics, but I don't see that happening with AI yet (and it also seems to be currently declining with people...)
- as with people, AI-s need good (also empathic, compassionate) educators
- as with people, results of lack of them, or of AI abuse, can be catastrophic (historic examples beyond my ability to count, see also current statistics of criminal offenses, e.g. violent and drug abuse...)
- with the level of ethics, empathy and compassion I currently see I'am terrified because the chances for a wise, empathic, compassionate AI evolving don't look good, and it's vital to try to make those chances better.
Appreciate your thoughts here as well. The parallel between AI and human ethical development is spot on—without the right foundation, we risk creating something powerful but devoid of wisdom. The decline of empathy in society worries me too, and I see how that reflects in AI’s trajectory.
The challenge is real, but so is the responsibility to shape it differently. Worth trying, even if the odds aren’t great.
